The Voynich Manuscript: Bugloss

Bugloss (Anchusa variegata) may be the plant represented on fol. 53r of the Voynich Manuscript. Bugloss was considered effective treatment against tapeworm, which may explain the root of the plant in the drawing.

  1. My "encyclopedia" notes for Anchusa (Blue Alkanet) refers to its attraction for bees -- and the name as "a paint for the skin".
